Hakujin the Human

Hakujin (pronounced ha-coo-jin) is the musical alias of Bret Phillips, a music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and artist based out of Atlanta, GA.

While being enamored with music from a very young age, he joined the school band in 5th grade playing the saxophone. In 6th grade he performed with his two best friends and music teacher as a saxophone group for the school talent show. The response from the audience brought so much energy and he was hooked.

This evolved into playing a plethora of other instruments, drums, guitar and starting bands. During college he got serious about developing a DIY band of his own. As a curious person, he was intrigued with so many parts of the creative process like recording, mixing, and mastering, to marketing, touring, and putting on shows. This lead into educating himself in each of those things and plenty of opportunities to practice them.

It was only a matter of time before his bands started to perform in the Atlanta circuit and start touring around the country. This allowed him to see and meet a plethora of artists and creators both musically and other. All of this eventually evolved into curating shows and local festivals, blending the experiences of different genres together.

After his last band project came to an end he took some time off to regroup, had a son, and has been focusing on production. He looks to have an impact beyond just releasing his own music, and wants to collaborate with artists on helping them bring their vision to life.
